Matt Brown probably doesn’t ever want to go back to Brazil.
Nevermind that he had to wear Demian Maia as a backpack for nearly three full rounds before getting tapped out at UFC 198, which took place in Curitiba. And nevermind that the crowd was so hostile to the American that he felt the need to flip them off at the weigh-ins.
Homeboy literally got attacked while walking to the cage. Attacked by someone in the audience!
As per MMAJunkie:
The fan who grabbed Matt Brown during his walk to the octagon for Saturday’s UFC 198 bout with Demian Maia was located and removed from the venue, according to UFC officials.
Things got dicey for Brown (20-14 MMA, 13-8 UFC) as he made his way to the cage to fight Brazilian welterweight Maia (23-6 MMA, 17-6 UFC) in front of a massive Brazilian audience. Brown appeared to be hit by several members of the audience, and one fan grabbed the hood of his sweatshirt.
To make matters worse, an ex-coach of Brown’s suckerpunched him in the hotel lobby after the show. Of course, that former coach was Brazilian…
(Here’s video of that assailant getting apprehended.)
Note to self: Avoid Brazil. Them cats are crazy.
