It is redemption time, because Mark Munoz and Tim Boetsch will be facing off against each other at UFC 162. The fight card was announced today to take place on July 6, and it will be headlined by a middleweight title fight between Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman in Las Vegas, N.V. Both Boetsch and Munoz are coming off devastating losses, but a win here will shoot them back into contention.
Boetsch had won four straight at 185 before Costa Phillippou derailed his run at the title when he stopped the Maine native in the third round. Munoz lost to current number-one contender Chris Weidman in the second round when Weidman stopped him with elbows and punches. Ring rust may play a factor for Munoz, because it will be nearly a year since he competed in the Octagon.
A big part of this fight will be the wrestling, because both of these fighters have the credentials to stalemate each other. Munoz was a former Division 1 wrestler, but it has been seen he can be taken down – just watch the Weidman fight for proof. Standing, both fighters have power, but more often than not they have won due to their ground and pound. So it may come down to who can take the fight to the ground first. If either are looking to get back into contention, then they will have to be impressive in this bout to erase the memory of their last fights.
