Following a tangled keylock in practice that popped his elbow, Mark Munoz was forced out of his top contender bout against Chael Sonnen, passing the opportunity onto Michael Bisping. The required surgery on the elbow has been deemed a success as numerous bone spurs and floating chips around the elbow were extracted (pic above).
Munoz explained via twitter that the surgery will require a four to six week recovery window before returning to full training. This gives the “Filipino Wrecking Machine” the estimated return in May to the Octagon. With 90 days out of the aggressive division much can change. A possible contenders match between the winner of Demian Maia and undefeated Chris Weidman may be what’s in line now for Munoz.
