Mark Hunt is still having a tough go of it, following his knockout loss to Junior dos Santos at UFC 160 in May, as the feared slugger continues to battle complications from a nasty staph infection. Hunt recently received a skin graph in an effort to get rid of the infection, which stemmed from a hematoma he incurred on his leg during the aforementioned bout. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like the procedure was successful.
Hunt recently posted the following update on his Facebook page (quoted via MMA Junkie.com):
“The skin graph didnt survive, and i think i will be back in hospital next week”
“i hope i dont have to go hospital, but we will see i see plastic surgeon tuesday. Didnt realise how bad this is man. Anyways troops will keep u guys informed.”
Hopefully a second round of treatment will work for Hunt, who prior to facing dos Santos, had taken the MMA world by storm. After dropping six straight MMA fights, the renowned kickboxer turned things around by stopping Chris Tuchscherer at UFC 127, and proceeded to score consecutive wins over Ben Rothwell, Cheick Kongo and Stefan Struve. The 39 year-old fighter currently holds a record of 9-8.
