UFC president Dana White, making the rounds along press row Wednesday, announced that middleweight champion Luke Rockhold will defend his title against Chris Weidman “in June.”
White didn’t give any other information while appearing on “Garbage Time with Katie Nolan,” but did confirm the rematch. The event would likely be UFC 199.
Rockhold (15-2) won the title in December with a dominating performance over Weidman. He finished the fight with a flurry in the fourth round, picking up his fifth consecutive win and fifth straight stoppage.
Weidman (13-1) had held the belt since 2013 when he knocked out Anderson Silva in one of the more shocking finishes in MMA history. Later that year, he nearly ended the career of “The Spider” when checking a kick that left Silva with a broken leg.
Following his battles with Silva, Weidman defended the belt with a 2014 decision over Lyoto Machida and a 2015 TKO of Vitor Belfort.
