It was a very publicized break-up as Josh Koscheck left his long-time training camp AKA last month, criticizing head coach Javier Vasquez. Koscheck explained that his main reasons for leaving AKA was Vasquez was not giving his athletes attention and would even blame fighters (like him) for not following game-plans rather than taking responsibility in losses. Why is there so many champions coming from AKA though? Koscheck has that answer as well.
I think the reason why everybody is so successful at the gym, over there in San Jose, is because of the training partners. I really truly believe that the training partners is why guys have fought for world titles and guys have been UFC champions like Cain, was because of the training partners. I think that is the number one reason. I think if you had real coaching, you would have seen a lot more champions out of that gym and I think that now, in my career, were going to see big improvements really quick.”
When asked if any of his former AKA team-mates would be training with him at his new location, Koscheck responded by saying “If they’re smart, they’ll come and get real coaching. I think they should. The doors always open for those guys. I prefer to never step foot in the city San Jose ever again.”
Koscheck was last seen taking on Mike Pierce at UFC 143 and taking a very close and controversial split-decision. Moving forward the former number one contender will be fighting Johny Hendricks at UFC on Fox 3 on May 5th.
