There was high drama at the weigh-ins for UFC 216 yesterday, with main event fighter Kevin Lee stepping on the scale for his interim lightweight title bout against Tony Ferguson and weighing in at 156 pounds. Since it’s a title fight, Lee had to be no more than 155 pounds.
Lee had an additional hour to shed that pound – which he did – but for a while there, we were all sweating it. Why? Because this wouldn’t have been the first time that poor Ferguson had been screwed over by an opponent at the last minute (remember when he was supposed to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov?). Also, with champ Conor McGregor currently preoccupied with his mountains of money, we need some sort of movement at the top of the division. Something. Anything.
But Lee did it, and the fight is on.
Anyway, here’s a video the UFC has released in his honor.
