Word has gotten back to UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones that Strikeforce heavyweight GP winner Daniel Cormier has been campaigning for a TUF season leading up to a title fight, and it seems the champ couldn’t be less interested. Just as Jones feels that Chael Sonnen was looking to use him as a big payday, he believes that Cormier is looking to boost himself on Jones’ name recognition.
“I’d be interested in a TUF season in the future, but it’d take the right opponent. As far as Daniel Cormier saying he wants to coach against me, he would want that, wouldn’t he? He’s relatively unknown, I want to do it when the fans are aware of both guys, and when it’s spunky and when it raises a lot of viewers. I’m not here to raise his stock.”
The talks of moving down to 205 for Cormier originate from the fact that his training partner Cain Velasquez is back on track to earning his title fight as he will look to do so at UFC 155 on Dec. 29th against Junior dos Santos. Should Velasquez win, Cormier has promised to drop down a division to avoid his friend in his transition to the UFC. With Showtime still in limbo, Cormier is expected to still be stuck under the showtime contract without an opponent to challenge him at heavyweight until Jan. of 2013.
