The ‘H-bomb’ has landed. Dan ‘Hendo’ Henderson now has a tentative date set for his title shot against Jon ‘Bones’ Jones. UFC 151 will headline the title fight, Sept. 1st on Labor Day weekend. No venue has been cited at this time, but it will take place in UFC’s backyard of Las Vegas, NV according to UFC president Dana White. The fight will come shortly after Henderson’s 42nd birthday, and almost a year from his UFC return fight against Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua, which earned him the title shot.
Jon Jones will look to make his fourth title defense, and should he earn it, the victory would be against his first MMA legend. Following the unanimous ‘destruction’ of Rashad Evans – Jones has been deemed untouchable by most for his short reign. In thirteen months, the 24-year-old has managed to take out three-straight former champions in the division.
The former Pride champ will now have another chance to earn the one title that has eluded him his entire career, the UFC title. shortly after the fall of Pride FC promotions, Henderson had failed in his title fights for the 205 lb. belt against Rampage Jackson, then in his attempt for the 185 lb. title against Anderson Silva; as he suffered a rear-naked choke finish. As the saying goes, ‘third times a charm.’
If anyone could leave a question of a chance against the dominating champ, it’s the king of KO upsets, Dan Henderson.
