Veteran Jon Fitch (24-4-1) put on a dominating grind for three rounds, taking out highly touted prospect Erick Silva (14-3-1) at UFC 153 in front of his opponents home country of Rio, Brazil.
It was almost a complete one-sided story as Fitch used superior grappling to negate the flashy standing game of Silva. In round two Silva was able to take the back of Fitch and get a deep rear-naked choke. As usual Fitch was able to once again miraculously escape the choke. From that point on the gassed out Silva was unable to protect properly from the attacks from Fitch from the top as he was mounted for majority of the fight.
Official: Jon Fitch defeats Erick Silva via unanimous decision (30-27 29-28 29-28)
As the former top welterweight contender was forced into a long lay-off due to injury, financial issues stacked up, leaving Fitch feeling cornered. As he expressed in his post-fight interview, he would of defeated anyone tonight – his family needed him and he was there ready to do whatever it took to go home with the win in Brazil.
