Joe Lauzon vs. Jamie Varner added to UFC on Fox 4

A lightweight bout between two of the lightweights  finest cap off a jam-packed card for UFC on Fox 4. Former WEC champ Jamie Varner (20-6-1) and Joe Lauzon will be in charge of kicking off the action on the UFC’s fourth appearance on broadcast television.

The event takes place Aug. 4 from the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Expected headlliners are Mauricio “Shogun” Rua vs. Brandon Vera in the main bout. Co-main events will be Ryan Bader vs. Lyoto Machida, and Travis Browne vs. Ben Rothwell.

Lauzon may have suffered a setback after a KO kick loss to the last WEC champ Anthony Pettis, but prior to that the former prospect went on a 5-2 run, taking out notables Melvin Guillard, Gabe Ruediger and Jeremy Stephens.

Varner will be looking for his fourth straight victory. The former champ shocked many being a late replacement in his return to the UFC against Edson Barboza where he showcased a first round TKO finish of the prospect. Once again Varner looks to be the UFC’s savior as he steps in for Terry Etim to take on Lauzon.
