Alexander Gustafsson is being forced to withdraw from his scheduled bout this Saturday with Gegard Mousasi. Gustafsson received a cut under his left eyebrow in training in preparation for the upcoming fight. The Swedish MMA Federation felt the laceration was to severe and did not clear Gustafsson to fight.
Gustafsson’s replacement will be teammate and training partner, Ilir Latifi. UFC officials have confirmed that the originally scheduled five round main event, will be changed to three rounds due to the short notice for Latifi.
Latifi holds a record of 7-2, and is currently riding a three fight win streak. This fight will serve as his UFC debut. The most noticeable change within the bout has to be the size difference. Gustafsson stands tall at 6-foot-4, while Latifi is much shorter at 5-foot-8. Expect the size difference to play a significant role in Mousasi’s game plan.
Mousasi is 8-1-1 in his last 10 bouts, and holds an impressive record of 33-3, including 18 knockout and 11 submission victories. The former Strikeforce light- heavyweight champion is set to make his UFC debut this Saturday.
UFC on Fuel TV 9 will be held in Stockholm, Sweden.
