GSP’s Boxing coach: ‘Diaz walks straight forward and back, not impressed’ (Video)
Trainer of top boxing athletes Manny Pacquiao, Oscar De Le Hoya, Amir Kahn and so on – The great Freddie Roach has once again trained Georges St-Pierre in preparation for one of his most aggressive opponents to date – Nick “Anti-Bullshit” Diaz.
During a recent interview with FightHubTV, Roach talks on his thoughts of today’s fight between his student, St-Pierre and his opponents straight-forward style.
“He’s a tough guy, ok,” said Roach. “He won’t tap out and he’s a tough guy. I’ve never met the person. He might be one of the better punchers in UFC, but he doesn’t fight like a fighter. He doesn’t shuffle in his combinations and doesn’t put any power behind his shots. He walks forward in a straight line and he walks backward in a straight line.
“I’m not really that impressed with his boxing. But, a lot of the UFC guys are from a different background than a boxing program. Most of them are wrestlers and they are more comfortable with the ground game. I’m training “Shogun” Rua right now and he’s punching like crazy right now. He can hit with both hands. But, when I first got him, he hit like a girl.”
“So Diaz, he walks forward with combinations. If you walk forward in a straight line he will kill you. But, the thing is that you just can’t let him do that. You can’t give him momentum.”
Roach seems to insinuate that Diaz may be great at pushing the action, but if you can negate that, you leave the Stockton stand-up without a striking chance.

He’s never impressed with anyone except if your paying him to train you. Whatever. Roach isn’t fighting so who cares?
I don’t think thats much of a put down considering the guys Roach has trained. Roach is a legit dude and he has trained ELITE boxers, so of course to him Diaz has a simple style.

I would never disagree with Freddie Roach about anything regarding boxing.
GSP is gonna own Diaz anywhere the fight goes and yes even on the feet. you can all laugh now but we’ll see who’s laughing tonight.
nick is great at pushing guys back then he uses his angels to keep them backed up against against the cage and go to work

Anyone that doesn’t think Roach is a great boxing coach has no clue. Anyone that thinks that Nick Diaz is a great boxer has no clue. Diaz is accurate, but his technique, form, and footwork is awkward to say the least. You put him up against a low level boxer and you’ll see that he still can’t really compete, let alone a truly great one.

Diaz throws awkward big loopy punches and moves almost robotic like. GSP is gonna see that shit coming from a mile away. GSP also uses kicks and elbows not just just his fists. It’s gonna be a bad night for Diaz and all his fans.
Freddie Roach knows more about boxing than all the people on here disagreeing with him combined. Diaz has terrible head and foot movement. It’s Nicks chin & cardio that allows him to excel in a brawl. Use good head and foot movement like Condit and Nick can be beat standing. For those who say Condit ran…. I suggest you look at Nick’s face after their fight.
