Georges St Pierre’s next welterweight title fight looks to be scheduled for March 11th 2010 at the Prudential Center in New Jersey. According to many reports, St. Pierre is expected to face Dan Hardy in the main event of the night.
Hardy won the title after defeating Mike Swick at UFC 105. He has won twelve of his last thirteen fights, which makes his record 23-6.
GSP will be defending his title for the fourth time and this will be his first time back fighting since his bout with Thiago Alves in UFC 100, where he tore his abductor and has been rehabilitating since to prepare for his next fight. He has six straight wins under his belt and is considered one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world.
Hardy doesn’t seem too worried about this potential bout, he was overheard saying that while he is a “fighter” St. Pierre is just an “athlete”. And following UFC 105, Hardy was quoted saying; “I’ll fight [GSP] in Canada, in Vegas, in the U.K., on the moon, in a phone box on the corner, in the car park. As long as he brings his belt along for me to take off, I don’t really mind. This is a great opportunity and I’ll fight him anywhere.” He then added, “Well, anywhere but Newark, obviously. Good Lord, man, have you seen that place?”
Personally I think Hardy doesn’t have a chance against GSP and his cockiness will get him into trouble. Maybe a good slug to the face will knock him off his high-horse? Either way, if this match-up really happens, it should be a pretty interesting fight.
