Gian Villante was a mess when he hobbled into the press room last night – and after his knock-down, drag-out battle with Corey Anderson not long before, those bruises and bright red abrasions were most certainly warranted.
Also warranted: His respect for Anderson. As Villante revealed during his postfight scrum, in the opening round of his UFC on FOX 15 bout, he kneed Anderson square in the mouth, knocking his bottom teeth back. And still Anderson kept coming.
As per the official medical suspensions handed down by the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board after the event, Anderson is suspended indefinitely pending an ENT (i.e., ear, nose and throat) specialist’s clearing of his jaw. In other words, Anderson got nailed pretty good.
