Journeyman Gegard Mousasi (34-3-1) makes his successful UFC debut (finally) as he takes out newcomer Illir Latifi (7-3-1) in the headline bout of UFC on FUEL TV in Stockholm, Sweden.
It was an intelligent tactic for Mousasi as he keeps his heavy handed opponent at bay with the jab. Relentless, Latifi was bloodied over three rounds with the a stiff jab. Mousasi used the reach advantage to guarantee the decision. Latiffi continued to throw heavy hooks throughout, despite his lack of success with it. There was few lands by Latiffi, but when they did, they were effective.
Official: Gegard Mousasi defeats Ilir Latifi via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
Former Strikeforce and Dream champ (two weight classes) Mousasi has now put together five wins. It may have been sixth if his war with Keith Jardine in April 2011 was not made a controversial draw. Not the biggest light heavyweight, “The Armenian Assassin” may not be to far off from a title fight.
