With Shane del Rosario exiting his UFC 162 bout again Dave Herman with an undisclosed injury, the UFC has found a replacement. Brazil’s heavyweight submission specialist and knockout artist Gabriel Gonzaga is set to step in for redemption against Herman on July 6 in Las Vegas, NV.
“Napao” looked good in his UFC return, taking out prospect Edinaldo Oliveira in the first via rear-naked choke. He would then follow up with an impressive win over Ben Rothwell via guillotine choke. Unfortunately his last outing ended the win-streak, losing by vicious elbows to Travis Browne at the TUF 17 finale. Gonzaga would look to have the “controversial” stoppage overturned by the NSAC, but had no luck.
Herman is on his heels with his back against the wall. With three straight losses, he will need a win if he wants to keep his career in the UFC. Don’t count “Pee-Wee” out yet, as his losses came at the hands of “Big Nog,” Roy Nelson, and Stefan Struve.
The July card is set to headline middleweight champ Anderson Silva versus top contender Chris Weidman, as well as co-headliners Frankie Edgar versus Charles Oliveira.
