The “main event” of tonight’s TUF 22 Finale prelims was supposed to feature two heavyweights slugging it out.
Instead, we got a veteran in Gabe Gonzaga too afraid to take risks because he thought his job was on the line, and an opponent in Konstantin Erokhin utterly unable to do anything worthwhile.
For all three rounds the two men danced, and it was a slow, uninspired dance that constantly had the referee stepping in and yelling for them to fight.
If neither man engaged with their strikes, and therefore earned negligible points for their “work”, Gonzaga at least had the good sense to go for a couple takedowns – which Erokhin seemed to willingly give up. When it was all over, that was enough for the judges, who awarded the Brazilian the most lackluster decision ever.
