Frankie Edgar was the improbable lightweight champ for a while – improbable because when he first fought reigning king BJ Penn everyone thought he was going to lose – and the ever-working, ever-grinding New Jersey native has been a fan-favorite ever since. And now his UFC contract is almost up.
Does that mean “The Answer” might soon be fighting in Bellator? Not likely.
As per MMAFighting and his appearance yesterday on Ariel Helwani’s “The MMA Hour”, Edgar wants to stick around.
“I’d like to get a deal,” Edgar said. “That’s what I’d like to do. Who knows what’s really gonna happen. But I would like to get a deal. I don’t really want to go anywhere else. This has been my home since the beginning. I just don’t see any reason why we shouldn’t. It’s not like we’re that far apart.”
