Former UFC fighter and veteran mixed martial artist Paul Kelly looks like he’ll be hanging up his gloves for good after recently being sentenced to 13 years in prison in Britain for drug trafficking.
Liverpudlian Kelly, also a father of two, was sentenced by the Liverpool Crown Court for supplying the Class A drug as part of his role as a ringleader in a certain drug-trafficking ring.
The judge who carried out the sentence explained his reasoning for the 13-year sentence, saying Kelly sought “an easy way to make money”.
“In my judgement you decided to supply Class A drugs when your contract with the UFC was terminated. You obviously enjoyed the high life and saw selling heroin as an easy way to make money.”
A veteran of nine UFC fight between 2008 and 2011, Kelly had a record of 5-4 which included two ‘Fight of the Night’ awards. His last UFC fight was a loss at UFC 126 against Donald Cerrone.
