It’s a crazy busy weekend for MMA, not that any hardcore fan should complain, as not only does it feature Bellator 105 and UFC Fight Night 30, but also WSOF 6 Saturday night.
WSOF held the official weigh-ins Friday afternoon in preparation for tomorrow’s card, which will go down at the Bank United Center in Coral Gables, Florida. Headlining the event will be a scrap between Josh Burkman and Steve Carl, which will crown the first WSOF welterweight champ.
Burkman came in at 169.6 for the fight, while Carl weighed in at 169.6. “The People’s Warrior” apparently said something to Carl as the two faced off, and the vet relayed afterwards that Burkman “just said he was glad it was me he was facing and that I deserved this shot.”
Then Burkman, who choked out Jon Fitch at WSOF 3 to lock up a title shot, was quoted saying in a press release:
“I have a lot of respect for him and he deserves to be here more than anyone. This is the biggest fight I’ve ever had to fight for the inaugural belt in the World Series of Fighting. It’s a big night for both of us.”
Although Burkman and Carl were on the mark, it looks like Marcelo Alfaya, Dan Lauzon and Alexandre Pimentel were all over weight on their initial attempts.
Here are the official weigh-in results for WSOF 6, which will have the main card broadcast throughout the U.S. on the NBC Sports Network.
