Looks like Andrei Arlovski will not only fight at World Series of Fighting’s upcoming September 14th event, but the former UFC heavyweight champ will compete in a main event once again.
According to a report from MMA Fighting.com, which was then confirmed by MMA Junkie.com, Anthony Johnson has been forced to drop out of WSOF 5 due to an injury. As a result, “The Pitbull” has agreed to step in and take on Mike Kyle in the headliner. The scrap will be contested at heavyweight. No details regarding the nature of Johnson’s injury have been released.
Arlovski (19-10) will look to regain the momentum he had heading into WSOF 2 in March, when he lost by UD to the aforementioned Johnson. Prior to the tilt, the 34 year-old vet had gone undefeated in five straight bouts, which including stopping Devin Cole at WSOF 1.
Kyle (20-9-1), on the other hand, is coming off a 21 second, stoppage win over well travelled veteran Travis Wiuff, which took place on a Championship Fighting Alliance card in May. The win returned Kyle to the winner’s circle, after he was tapped out by Gegard Mousasi at Strikeforce’s last card ever in January.
While Johnson-Kyle had the potential for some interesting and violent exchanges, so does Arlovski-Kyle.
WSOF 5 will go down at the Revel Resort and Casino in Atlantic City and will be broadcast on The NBC Sports Network.
