A battle of former WEC champions has been set to take place at UFC 139 in November between “The California Kid” Urijah Faber (25-5) and Brian Bowles (10-1). Both men will look to get back to a title shot with a victory as Dana White has hinted at either man being next in line with a victory here.
“Before a possible trilogy can be considered between Urijah Faber and his rival, champion Dominick Cruz, he will take on one of the division’s truly elite fighters, former bantamweight champion Brian Bowles,” UFC president Dana White stated. “A win over Faber would be massive for Bowles’ bid to challenge for the belt that was once his. The stakes are high and the fight will be intense.”
Faber recently suffered a close decision loss against current champ Dominick Cruz at UFC 132. With a victory here Faber will likely receive a rubber-match with Cruz as both men hold victories over the other.
Bowles known for his heavy hands putting a KO stop to Miguel Torres winstreak, stripping the title. After being forced out nearly a year due to injuries, Bowles returned with a big victory over Damacio Page and Takeya Mizugaki.
Likely date and location for the event is Nov. 19 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, CA but at this time has not been made official. The card is expected to headline the heavyweight title fight between champion Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos.
