World Series of Fighting 3 will have to go down without the services of world class kickboxer and MMA newcomer Tyrone Spong. According to multiple reports, Spong will not fight Angel DeAnda as scheduled at the June 14th event in Las Vegas due to visa issues.
The feared striker is also scheduled to compete at a GLORY kickboxing event in New York approximately one week later. News of Spong’s visa troubles was reported by Sherdog.com first.
Spong made his MMA debut at WSOF 1 in November and quickly outgunned Travis Bartlett. In March, he stopped Remy Bonjasky at GLORY 5, who was a pretty big deal in the kickboxing world for sometime (in case only MMA is your thing). The Dutch fighter has been training with the Blackzilians team in Florida more recently.
While the WSOF roster has plenty of fighters who have been released by the UFC at some juncture, Spong is one of the promotion’s assets who has a ton of promise and is just starting his MMA career. In other words, WSOF likely isn’t too happy about Spong not being able to compete at the event, which will be broadcast on the NBC Sports Network.
