The fight started off with great exchanges between the two former champions. But Franklin proved to be the better man starting off with big combination’s before ending the night for Chuck Liddell with a straight right and a left on the way down to finish the cold knockout with five seconds left in round one (4:55).
Prior to the fight, UFC President, and good friend of Chuck Liddell, Dana White said that he will be pressing Liddell to retire if he is KO’ed again tonight. With Liddell now 40 years old, White worries about the health of his good friend.
Franklin during his victory speech explains that his left arm broke when blocking a kick by Chuck Liddell. Early in the round I felt my arm break blocking a kick by chuck. I heard the bone click when I moved it.
When Rogan asked if 205 pound would be his new home, Franklin had this to say:
I want to make a run for the belt, I’m here to stay.
