The question of the toughest lightweight in the UFC division will remain a mystery even longer as both UFC lightweight champ Frankie Edgar and top contender Gray Maynard are sidelined with injuries serious enough to be removed from their bouts.
UFC president Dana White confirmed to MMA Fighting that both fighters are definitely off the upcoming UFC 130 card at the MGM Grand Garden Arena only weeks away from its planned date of May 28.
Edgar reportedly suffered two broken ribs as former WEC lightweight champ Anthony Pettis was tapped to step in for the injured Edgar . However Maynard ironically suffered a knee injury shortly after Edgar’s injury.
The battle will need to be postponed with no estimated date at this time. Co-headliners Rampage Jackson vs Matt Hamill will be upgraded to the main event with Frank Mir vs Roy Nelson now becoming the co-main event.
