During the UFC 117 post-fight press conference, UFC President Dana White expressed his dismay with the Pitbull, Thiago Alves following his missed weight Friday afternoon for his fight against Jon Fitch. Alves simply refused to lose a half-pound giving up 20% of his purse for the fight.
White explained that no fighter should be missing weight at the UFC level, especially for a second time. He is a large 170 lb, and I think maybe too big, he needs to move up to 185 said White. When White was pressured by the press if this was a mandatory move, White could not answer directly.
Alves reportedly responded to White’s wishes to thegarv.com, texting that he will be staying at welterweight. It will be interesting to hear how his boss will be taking this.
Should Alves stay at Welterweight and be the big dog in the division, or should he stop the hard cuts and move up a weight class?
