The last man to technically defeat the dominating UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, Yushin Okami is said to be next in line for a title shot at the upcoming UFC in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil according to Silva’s blackhouse team mate Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. The current date for the UFC in Rio event is scheduled for August 27. If what Big Nog says is true this would put an end to a possible upcoming ‘super fight’ between Silva and welterweight champ, Georges St-Pierre should he defeat Jake Shields at UFC 129.
Silva and Okami first faced off at Rumble on the Rock 8 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Silva suffered a disqualification due to an illegal upkick that ended the fight in favor of Okami. Similar to the light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones only loss, the DQ came after a very dominating performance by Silva. Now with Okami on a three fight winstreak, including a recent victory over Nate Marquardt, Silva may have the chance to erase his DQ loss on his record.
