The UFC continues to round out the line-up for the promotion’s next “Fight for the Troops” card on November 6th, and now it’s announced that former TUF winners Michael Chiesa and Colton Smith will scrap on the card. Not only is that an interesting addition due to the TUF angle, but Smith is an active Army Ranger, so guess who will likely be the crowd favourite at Fort Campbell?
Smith (3-2) worked his way to a unanimous decision win over Mike Ricci last December to win the 16th Season of TUF, before he was stopped by Robert Whittaker at UFC 160 in May. The 26 year-old will be dropping down from welterweight to 155 pounds to battle Chiesa.
Chiesa (9-1), meanwhile, is also coming off a defeat, as the 25 year-old was forced to tap-out to a Jorge Masvidal Dárce Choke at UFC on FOX 8 in July. The “Maverick” choked out Al Iaquinta to take TUF 15 last June, and went on to submit Anton Kuivanen at UFC 157 in April.
So, that’s a pretty intriguing and important bout for both guys. The UFC has also announced that TUF 14 finalist Dennis Bermudez (11-3) will fight featherweight Nik Lentz (24-5-2) at the November 6th, UFC Fight Night 31 card as well. Lentz continues to roll at 145 pounds as he’s won three straight since making the drop from lightweight, while Bermudez is also on an impressive run and has won four straight.
“Fight for the Troops III” will be headlined by a middleweight bout between Lyoto Machida and Tim Kennedy and will be broadcast on FOX Sports 1.
