Get ready for something more nerve-racking than watching two people inflict great bodily harm upon each other in a cagefight. That’s right, I’m talking about former UFC champ Ronda Rousey appearing on the long-running sketch comedy show “Saturday Night Live” this weekend. Why will it be nerve-racking? Consider this:
- SNL is watched by millions, and is part of mainstream culture;
- SNL is broadcast live, so there are no re-takes when mistakes are made;
- Rousey is a great fighter, but despite being in a few major motion pictures, she is no actress. Therefore, there is plenty of room for her to bomb; and,
- If Rousey bombs, THE WHOLE WORLD WILL BE WATCHING.
I don’t know about you, but I certainly don’t want the most visible representative of our sport failing on live television.
Anyway, SNL has released the promo videos for Saturday’s show, which of course feature Rousey. Watch them, then tell me if you think she’s sufficiently funny enough to make Saturday night’s excursion into comedy something we’re going to be laughing along with or laughing at.
