The UFC continues to roll out bouts for the promotion’s summer schedule, and one of the latest fights to be confirmed will feature Donald Cerrone taking on fellow lightweight contender Rafael dos Anjos. The fight, which features the promotion’s sixth and tenth ranked lightweights respectively, will co-headline the second UFC on FOX Sports 1 card, August 28th in Indianapolis.
News of the bout was first reported by the Indy Star, and the the UFC has also retweeted the report.
Cerrone (20-5-1) recently got back on track at UFC 160 by scoring a one sided, unanimous decision win over KJ Noons. The victory followed Cerrone’s quick loss to Anthony Pettis in January, who dropped the well rounded vet with a cringe inducing body kick. The 30 year-old, former WEC star is 8-2 in his last ten fights.
Dos Anjos (19-6), meanwhile, has been working his way up the lightweight ranks by winning four straight fights since he dropped a split decision to Gleison Tibau in November, 2011. Dos Anjos has done so against some pretty stiff competition as well, as the 28 year-old has earned wins over Mark Bocek, Kamal Shalorus, Anthony Njokuani and most recently Evan Dunham.
That’s a pretty interesting fight with a lot at stake for both Cerrone and dos Anjos. The August 28th, UFC on FS Sports 1 2 card will be headlined by a rematch between Martin Kampmann and Carlos Condit.
