The flyweight title fight between champion Demetrious Johnson and John Moraga was set for The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale on April 13, but now the bout is off due to Johnson suffering an injury in training. He may have been looking at a little too quick of a turn around since the fight against Moraga would have been his fifth fight in less than 13 months. It is unknown if Moraga will sit out for his promised title shot, or if he now will have to take another fight in the meantime.
Moraga earned his this shot after going 2-0 in his UFC career. First, he took out Ulysses Gomez in the first round by knockout in August of last year. He came back at UFC 155 in December, where he finished Chris Cariaso by submission in the third round.
The injury that has kept Johnson out of the fight is unknown at this time, and it’s unclear how long it will be before he is back. Johnson has been one of the busier fighters in the UFC – he fought four times in 2012. He had a draw with Ian McCall, which led to a rematch where Johnson took the unanimous decision victory. The decision victories continued to come in when he won the title by defeating Joseph Benavidez by split decision, and then again in his first defense against John Dodson.
