During yesterday’s UFC on Fox 7: Henderson vs. Melendez media call, we heard co-headliner Daniel Cormier speak on his upcoming opponent Frank Mir. What he had to say was nothing of controversy about his opponent, except that the comments coming from Mir are likely not his true feelings.
“Well, you know, I’m real big on fighting with emotion. I’m not going to fight with any emotion and there’s not anything Frank can ever say about me that’s going to make me fight a fight that’s more dangerous. I really don’t know. I’ve stated time and time again that I think there’s only a select few individuals who can take the beatings that Frank has taken and all this stuff and still continue to be the way he is. Doesn’t matter to me. I mean, I’m going to go out there and I’m going to fight my fight. I’m hoping it’s promotion, because if that’s the way his mind works, then it’s very disturbing.”
Cormier is referring to comments that Mir made earlier in an interview, saying “I’ll hunt him down and take one of his limbs home,” (paraphrased). It shouldn’t come as a surprise, as this is the usual type of answers we hear from the former champ that we’ve come to expect. He infamously received flack in the past for saying he would literally kill Brock Lesnar by breaking his neck in the cage in their rematch. It seems Frank’s actually toned it down, but you be the boss.
