April 1 is the absolute worst day of the year to be someone who jockeys in MMA news because, well, it’s April 1 and every damn tweet and story is suspect thanks to the dreaded April Fools tradition. But MMAFighting is reporting that light-heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier is injured and out of his main event bout against Jon Jones at UFC 197, and I’m inclined to believe them.
As per the site:
The highly-anticipated rematch between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones won’t be happening later this month after all.
An injury has forced Cormier, the UFC light heavyweight champion, to withdraw from the fight, MMAFighting.com has confirmed via multiple sources. Cormier wasn’t available for comment when contacted by MMAFighting.com Friday night.
You know what the UFC should do now? Have Jones fight co-main eventers Demetrious Johnson and Henry Cejudo simultaneously. That would definitely save the card.
