Dana White responds to Chael Sonnen’s positve Steroid result

UFC President Dana White speaks out briefly on Chael Sonnen’s steroid use prior to his title fight with Anderson Silva. White explains that his main concern is still to remove P.E.Ds from the promotion, and he drops large amounts of cash in the bucket to protect the sport says White. Here is what White said exactly when asked of the penalties for Sonnen.

“What else do I do?” White said. “We’ve spent millions of dollars – literally, millions of dollars – to try to get this thing regulated so they can be tested by the government. Do you know how much it costs us to put on that fighter seminar every year? Let me tell you, we’re bringing guys in from all over the world. We have guys from England, Germany, Croatia, Australia, Korea. We have 350 guys under contract and they’re coming from all over the world. It costs us a (expletive) ton, but we do it because it’s important.

“When one of them fails a test, the government is going to fine them and suspend them and tell them they can’t make a living for a year. So should I come in after they’ve already lost the ability to make a living for a year and been fined all this money and, in the worst economic disaster in the history of the world, fine them another huge amount and take away their ability to make a living even longer?

“These are guys with homes and families and personal lives and bills and debts and obligations, just like me and you,” White said. “After they lost all this money already, money that, A, they’ve probably already spent and B, which they owe taxes, do I fine them another huge amount? What else do you do to a human being?”

White has done a great job of humanizing the fighter here. Do you share the same sediment on the issue?

I agree. The UFC leave testing and punishment to an outside body who aren’t as biased as themselves.

He made a mistake. He’s being punished. That’s it.

But for me the most redicilous thing is amount of sh*t Chael talked about guys who use PED. And now he is that guy. Just look his Q&A, Lens comments etc. This is so funny, that im laughing my … off.

  • yeah, Dana’s got a point. What more can you do to a guy?

I think he should have to start over, come back to the ufc thru the ultimate fighter and earn his place again. He wanted to cheat, the penalty should be stiff.

Chael’s a fraud. Like most right wingers, they preach the gospel of their supposed perfect outlook on life and how you should be and WHAMMO, skeletons in the closet, well muscled PED skeletons. Thing is as the other comment states, Chael talked [email protected] about PED’s with other fighters so it just seems that much more sleazy. Hey, we all expect guys like Nate Marquardt and well, most diesel Brazilians take em but it’s part of the sport these days and you have to be smart about it. I called this a few times when I saw Sonnen walking around with a back that looks like he was just coming out of puberty. He must of been going waaay overboard to break out like that. Anderson SIlva, whether you like him or not is a friggin Ninja. I would think anybody that actually walks all over him like Chael did for 4 1/2 rnds to be on major juice.
I say Chael can come back after suspension but gets no clout and has to fight his way back up the ladder.
