Dana White names Rory MacDonald’s planned next opponent

Rory MacDonald

Dana White was quick to agree with critics on the recent UFC on Fox 8 bout between Rory MacDonald and Jake Ellenberger — “it was boring. He had a chance to prove to be the top contender and he blew it,”said White on MacDonald. The President later on suggested that he has an answer for the victor, as to guarantee a more exciting fight. Enter knockout artist, Robbie Lawler.

From UFC to Pride to EliteXC to Strikeforce — it was the buyout of S.F. promotions that brought us back the talented Lawler, currently standing 3-0 as of late in the UFC. “Ruthless” Lawler would make his debut with a TKO over former top contender Josh Koscheck and followe the win up with the defeat of wrestling stand-out Bobby Voelker at the recent UFC on Fox 8 card.

With both men coming off wins at the recent Fox card, MacDonald may have found the perfect opponent. He may stand with a five-fight win-streak, including wins over former champ BJ Penn, Nate Diaz, Mike Pyle and Jake Ellenberger, however as White said “you’re only as good as your last fight.” Unfortunately the match-up did not highlight the best of the possible future contender. Second problem with contender-ship for “Ares” is the close friendship he shares with champ Georges St-Pierre. According to MacDonald, the fight between the two will not happen, however Dana White says he will change his tune when he sees the amount of money he could make.
