Finally, it has been announced former Pride champ Dan Henderson and former light-heavyweight champ Lyoto Machida will lock it up at UFC 157. The fight card takes place in Anaheim, California, and it is set for February 23rd. This fight is thought to produce the next contender for the winner of the Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen title fight. Henderson was originally scheduled to fight the champ all the way back at UFC 151, but an injury forced him out of that bout. Machida asserted his right for a title fight when he knocked out Ultimate Fighter winner Ryan Bader, but declined a match with the current champion when it was too short notice. Now the winner of this bout will earn the right to fight for the title once again.
The most interesting point is that this bout is not the main event per the press release. It has been announced that Renan Barao is going to be talked into defending his interim bantamweight title, but that may not be for this card. The more interesting rumor is that UFC 157 could be Ronda Rousey’s first fight in the UFC. The female brawler is a socal native, and this timeline could work for her debut. Strikeforce is set to fold in January which would allow her to transition to the UFC. So there is a still a lot of posturing before Rousey enters the UFC, but with Machida and Henderson on a card, and to also have a main event will make this a stacked card.
