Dan “Hendo” Henderson has announced that his Strikeforce debut will not only take place sometime in April but that it will also be a title shot at the current 185lb Strikeforce champion Jake Shields.
Hendo announced this today on ESPNs’ MMA Live show that he will be facing off against the Gracie trained fighter as his first fight out of a contracted four fight contract deal with the Strikeforce promotion.
This should make for an excellent fight as I feel Shields is a great and well rounded fighter who has beaten top fighters such as, Hayato Sakurai, Yushin Okami, Robbie Lawler, and Jason “Mayhem” Miller. Shields is the first and only person to hold the now defunct EliteXC middleweight title.
Shields became the Strikeforce middleweight champion after beating out Jason “Mayhem” Miller in a unanimous decision. We will soon see if he has what it takes to keep the belt from around the waist of Henderson who is no stranger to collecting belts as the former simultaneous title holder in Pride FC as the middle and welter weight champion.
