Cormier not looking to wait for Jones, calls for Mir in UFC debut

It was a match originally set to take place at the last cancelled Strikeforce on November 3rd. Now, as Daniel Cormier prepares to transition to the UFC, he does not want that preparation for former UFC champ Frank Mir to be for nothing. Even with White’s recent comments about Cormier being considered as the next opponent for Jones, that is too long to wait for the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix winner.

“Well, right now, Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen are fighting on April 27th. If I come out of this fight un-injured and victorious, I will take a little bit of time to chill and then get back into training for my next fight. When I come in, I am going to stay at heavyweight and I really want to fight Frank Mir. That is the fight I want. I would love for it to be on the FOX show here in San Jose. April 20th, fight Frank Mir, on FOX, have it be a free broadcast and that will help expose me and get more fans behind me who may not know me. That is what I want right now. That is the fight I have trained for, and would be excited to train for it again; Mir wants the fight, I think it would be a great fight. It’s like we are doing Joe Silva’s job for him.” –  via

Of course there is still the opponent at hand for “DC,” Dion Starring who he will be taking on next week at Strikeforce’s last event in Oklahoma. Cormier admits that he is happy to return to his origin, to cap out his Strikeforce career, where he started 0-0, only to return at 10-0.
