The still-undefeated UFC lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov has been on the shelf with injuries since last April — and unfortunately, has only made the news of late in a recent out-of-the-cage altercation with Nate Diaz.
But everyone’s favorite Dagestani cowboy — who is the last man to defeat current titlist Rafael Dos Anjos — is still training hard for his long-awaited comeback.
Last week, Nurmagomedov took some time off of his workout to share his opinion on one of the MMA’s other most anticipated bouts.
According to Nurmagomedov, the upcoming UFC featherweight championship bout between longtime division kingpin Jose Aldo and interim titlist Conor McGregor is a no-brainer.
“His striking, I like,” Nurmagomedov says of McGregor. “I think he can beat Jose Aldo. Maybe finish him. A lot of people think Aldo will beat him, but my opinion is he kills him.”
Nurmagomedov offers a warning to the rising star McGregor, however.
“I like Conor McGregor, but if he comes to 155? In four minute, (I’d) smash. No problem,” says Nurmagomedov.
Asked about the brash Irishman’s persistent trash talk, Nurmagomedov simply sighed.
“I don’t know. His trash talk is not bad,” Nurmagomedov says. “He knows how to make money. He’s 5-0 in the UFC, four finished. These guys not easy. But if he comes to 155…”
Nurmagomedov pauses to slap his hand against his elbow.
“No problem,” he says with a smile.
