As expected, Conor McGregor (13-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) will make his second UFC appearance when the UFC returns to Boston this August at UFC on FOX Sports 1. His opponent will be England’s Andy Ogle (9-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC).
Coming off of a hugely impressive debut in Sweden at UFC on FUEL TV 9 where it took him only 67 seconds to knock out Marcus Brimage, McGregor is now officially going to fight in the heavily Irish-rooted city of Boston. A former two-weight champion in the UK-based Cage Warriors Fighting Championship, McGregor carries an impressive 9-fight winning streak into this bout, with all of those being stoppages (7 in the first round).
Andy Ogle, a cast member of TUF 15, is also coming off a big win, which was achieved in Wembley Arena at UFC on FUEL TV 7 in London, where got a impressive decision victory over Josh Grispi. He lost his UFC debut to Akira Corassani, though that is the only blemish on an impressive 8-1 run in his last 9 fights.
The fight for McGregor shows that the UFC aren’t quite ready to throw him into the deep end of the featherweight division just yet, despite the 24 year old Irishman expressing a desire to fight anyone from Jose Aldo to Cub Swanson. This will be a massive test for both however, and will push the victor into the mix at 145.
UFC on FOX Sports 1 1 takes place August 17th at the TD Garden in Boston and is headlined by a lightweight championship bout between Benson Henderson and T.J. Grant, with a heavyweight bout between Alistair Overeem and Travis Browne serving as the co-main event.
