Conor McGregor to Walk Out With Washed Up ’80s Singer

I’m not sure if you’ve heard yet, but some Irish dude named Conor McGregor is taking on Chad Mendes for an interim featherweight belt at UFC 189. It’s kind of a big deal. So big, in fact, that McGregor has plumbed the depths of Irish pop culture and found the perfect musician to walk him to the cage when the time comes.

Sinead O’Connor.

Perhaps you remember O’Connor as that bald chick who ripped up a photo of the Pope on Saturday Night Live. Or maybe you remember her one hit “Nothing Compares 2 U”. Or maybe you went through a weird emo stage and liked listening to bitter Irish women sing about politics. Regardless! That’s who McGregor has gotten to walk out with him!

Who should Mendes get for his walk out? To keep with the washed-up ’80s singer motif, I think he should see if Corey Hart (“Sunglasses at Night”) or The Outfield (“Your Love”) are available. Or, to win all the points, he should go for the epitome of one-hit wonders: Dexy’s Midnight Runners.

Nothing says “I’m going to smash your Irish ass into the ground” like a chorus of “Come on, Eileen”.
