It looks like the UFC will close out the year with a massive card totaling twelve fights. They have now added a featherweight match-up between The Ultimate Fighter alum. Cody McKenzie and former WEC title contender Leonard Garcia. This bout will be on the undercard, but it is unknown if it will fall on the facebook or FX portion of the bouts. UFC 155 is headlined by a heavyweight title fight rematch between the current champion Junior Dos Santos and the former champion Cain Velasquez. The inaugural year end card takes place on December 29th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
This will be McKenzie’s second fight at 145, and he will surely hope it ends better than his first attempt. In his last fight, he was stopped at 31 seconds of the first round by former title contender Chad Mendes, which dropped his UFC record to 2-3 after entering the promotion at 12-0. He will need a win in this fight to continue his career within the world’s largest fight promotion, and that may be true of his opponent as well.
Garcia is riding a career worst three fight losing streak, and has not won a fight in over two years. This is far off from the fighter that was once a contender for the title in the WEC. Garcia dropped to 145 after his initial run in the octagon stopped at 1-2. From there he picked up two knockout wins for a shot at the title where Mike Brown finished him in under two minutes. His entertaining style has kept him around this long, but only very few fighters can survive four straight losses and I doubt he is one of them. Sometimes fighters at the end of their rope are the most dangerous, so this could become very interesting come December.
