Despite landing an obvious shot after the bell this past weekend at UFC on FOX 13, strawweight contender Claudia Gadelha will not be released.
Gadelha and Joanna Jedrzejczyk engaged in a three-round war, won by Jedrzejczyk via decision. After the final bell sounded, Jedrzejczyk appeared to land a kick and the Brazilian responded with a hook to the face.
She immediately tried to apologize to Jedrzejczyk for the move, which came while the referee was between both fighters.
Almost immediately, a reminder of Paul Daley’s late strike on Josh Koscheck was brought to the forefront. Daley was cut that night from the promotion and has yet to be asked back. UFC president Dana White addressed that during the post-fight press conference.
“Everybody goes back to Daley. The difference is this: when Daley did it to Koscheck, I was in there,” White said. “I went up to Daley and he didn’t care. He didn’t give a shit.
“As soon as (Gadelha) did it, she reached her hand out and apologized to her. Those two had a war….and then she completely apologized for doing it.”
Jedrzejczyk is expected to get the first crack at the newly-crowned champion, Carla Esparza, after securing her second win inside the Octagon.
