Former middleweight champ Chris Weidman was supposed to rematch with Luke Rockhold – the man who took his belt – but a training injury means their UFC 199 headlining bout is off.
As per Newsday, it’s a neck injury that has done Weidman in.
A neck injury forced Chris Weidman to withdraw from next month’s rematch with middleweight champion Luke Rockhold at UFC 199.
Weidman, the former middleweight champion, said he has a herniated disc in his neck that is pushing on a nerve and causing discomfort.
Weidman, from Baldwin, said Wednesday that it will require surgery. Recovery is expected to be six to eight weeks, he said.
It remains to be seen if Rockhold will remain on the card, but in terms of a replacement, Michael Bisping has made a case for being the man.
