The “money” is coming to Australia when former featherweight number one contender Chad Mendes takes of Jose Aldo’s training partner Hacran Dias. While no news has been shed on the battery charges that Mendes acquired back in July, it seems that those charges will not prohibit him from leaving the country for the upcoming Australia card. This card will also hold the finals for the Ultimate Fighter Australia vs. UK as well as with the middleweight match-up between Hector Lombard and Rousimar Palhares. The card is also headlined by a bout between TUF coaches Ross Pearson and George Sotiropoulos.
Chad is coming off a brutal knockout win over former Ultimate Fighter veteran Cody McKenzie. Before that bout he suffered a first round stoppage to current featherweight champion Jose Aldo. He believes he can beat the champion, and that he just needs to work his way back to a title shot. A win over Hacran would prove a lot, considering he is 21-1 in his career and he is a training partner of Jose Aldo. In this bout Chad can get more than a win, he can even his score with famed Brazilian camp Nova Uniao, in the same way BJ Penn is trying to with Tri-Star in his match with Rory Macdonald.
Hacran ha a lot to prove in this fight. Originally he tried out for the Ultimate Fighter Brazil, but his record and ability gave him a direct ticket to the big show. Unfortunately he was unimpressive in his debut, although he earned a win. He has a stern test with Mendes and will not be able to rely on his ground game like he did in his last fight. Mendes is a big, strong fighter who is able to dictate where the fight takes place most of the time. Plus, with power added to his arsenal he is slowly becoming an even more dangerous fighter. Whoever wins this fight will surely attain a top five space in the UFC featherweight division.
