If at first you don’t succeed — double down. Two of the welterweight division’s most exciting strikers, Carlos Condit and Martin Kampmann surprisingly didn’t have the most exciting conclusion back in April 2009 at UFC Fight Night as Kampmann took the split decision, but they look to change that in their next meeting. “The Natural Born Killer” and “The Hitman” will now headline UFC on Fox Sports 1 2 (second FS event) on Aug. 28 in Indianapolis.
The highly anticipated debut of the imported WEC champ was stopped dead in his tracks by Kampmann, only to rebound with five straight victories, earning him a title shot against Georges St-Pierre. Unfortunately a loss to the champ, followed by a somewhat controversial unanimous decision loss to current top contender Johny Hendricks, has now put him against the man that welcomed him to the organization.
The Denmark standout on the other hand may not hold the same length of win streak, but is nonetheless a fan favorite, due to his brawling style, earning four fight of the night bonuses in his career. Ironically Kampmann will also be coming off a loss to Johny Hendricks from back in Nov. 2012 where he suffered a painful first round knockout.
The venue for the event will be Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The Fox Sports channel will be the re-branding of the current “Speed Channel.”
