Despite Roy Nelson’s recent tweets of being asked to fight Cain Velasquez (9-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC) at UFC 146, UFC boss, Dana White has verified via twitter that it will not be Nelson but, Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva (16-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC) stepping up to fight the former UFC heavyweight champ on May 26.
“Don’t believe any of the BS you read on the internet,” White tweeted. “Cain is fighting Bigfoot Silva May 26th in Vegas.”
Originally expected to fight Nelson at UFC 146, Silvia has been upgraded to the co-main event, now leaving Nelson without an opponent. It is expected that Nelson will stay on the card however as the UFC has kept to a format of three headline bouts on pay-per-view. Bringing in an opponent for Nelson seems to be the easiest solution at this point.
Silva, coming off a first round KO loss to Daniel Cormier in the semi-finals of the Strikeforce heavyweight Grand Prix, will be looking to rebound in his UFC debut.
Velasquez will also be in search of redemption following his first professional loss to now champion, Junior dos Santos as UFC on Fox.
