In the wake of Pat Healy’s positive test for marijuana, following his awe inspiring and lucrative win over Jim Miller at UFC 159, Bryan Caraway has reportedly been tapped for the card’s “Submission of the Night” award.
Caraway, who submitted Johnny Bedford at the April 27th event in Newark, New Jersey with a third round guillotine choke, will now receive the 65 grand that was originally awarded to Healy. In an interesting and weird twist, it was Caraway who convinced UFC President Dana White prior to the event to raise the bonus award money from $50,000 to$65,000.
White revealed Caraway’s good fortune via Twitter by saying:
“It’s known up front that checks are held until everyone passes the drug test. Brian Caraway get the SON now. Healy did himself dirty”
It remains to been seen how the UFC will handle the “Fight of the Night” bonus, which was also awarded to Healy and of course Miller. Healy will not receive the money because of his aforementioned test results. The 28 year-old lightweight’s win over Miller has also been overturned to a no-contest.
Caraway has gone 4-1 in his last five bouts, with his only loss during that stretch coming via split decision against Takeya Mizugaki.
