Sources from UFC told MMA Junkie today that the organization is looking to have an event on July 3rd for UFC 116, in Las Vegas. A venue for the event has yet to be decided nor has the date in July been reserved with the NSAC.
Dana White stated recently that the winners of the two upcoming heavyweight fights- Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Cain Valasquez and Frank Mir vs. Shane Carwin- will most likely help determine who will be Lesnar’s next opponent. White did not specify which winner of the fights will get that opportunity.
“We’ve got to find out what’s going to happen with the next two fights, the heavyweight fights, and then we’ll figure out what we’re going to do,” White said Thursday. “If those guys come out of that fight healthy, we’ll do that fight.”
Brock is recovering right now in Minnesota after suffering through the intestinal disease diverticulosis that almost ended his career in MMA.
Brock said he has already gained back 20 of his 40 lbs. that he lost during his illness and is feeling confident in his come-back.
“I know one thing, all them guys are [sh–ing] in their pants right now.”
As of now there are no other contenders rumored for the July event, but of course updates will be made as more news comes in.
